In the blink of an eye*

Drought, disease, acts of nature
Rip, ravage and tear apart
Life is but brief - inevitable
Death's trap lies in wait

Yet lives were lost today -
in the blink of an eye;
The imploding fires of hatred
Maiming bodies, breaking hearts

Hatred will lose - even if it
pushes innocents to their end;
The joy of victory is but short
For one day - peace will descend

Holding the earth together
Are our ancestors' remains
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
They lie mingled, without constraints.

Step into a river - and the sand beneath
Is softened by my ancestors' ashes;
Cushioning the feet of unknown children
Helping them laugh, play and frolic

Your ancestors perhaps lie below
Forests, trees and crops that grow;
Giving food here, shade there
Nothing to lose, giving without fear

Harmony is our destiny - if not here
In the great beyond; and one day
Lying in silence, we will feed and shelter
Unknown children of the future

if only everybody can think like this.

I'm going to make a list of all things I want to enjoy before I die and am going to get them done as soon as possible :-).

Hope all's well at your end, PK.

lovely! lovely! blog. Made my day today as I diligently went thru each and every post of yours. Was sorta sobbing at some, laughing at others but mostly was just happy to find another kindred soul and full of awe at your immense courage and zest for life.
