Can't believe its this cold, and this far down south. I open the door to get out and am met with a light drizzle. Not bad - the weather forecast had prepared me for worse. I brace myself for an iced over parking lot, but nothing. So far so good.
Scrape the ice off the windscreen and get into the car - the chill from the steering wheel seeping through my gloves. Drive to work with the heater fully on, without even taking off my coat. Shiver the first quarter of the way, then get used to it. At least it's not snowing, and its not icy. I pass a few signs informing about iced-over exits being closed. Thankfully, the exit I need to take isn't. So many layers of clothing - argggh. Not used to them at all. But then again, there are those who may not have warm clothes - or worse, a place to sleep. Maybe the local churches have put up the homeless for the night. I pray that there is nobody out there on the streets, shivering in an uncaring world.
I reach the workplace, and park. The wind feels icy on my face, and I involuntarily pull my coat close, securing the hood over my head. I amble along carrying office bag, lunch bag and purse, keeping my eyes peeled for ice. Darn, the bags keep slipping off my shoulder. My gait feels clumsy, even funny. Is this how astronauts walk in space? The wind tugs at my scarf, and it flies about backwards, on either side of my neck. A cape...like Superman? Or Superwoman....nah, I'm not one who worries a lot about lip color and eyelash length. Besides, my gait isn't anything like Superman or Superwoman. Too many things weighing me down. Maybe I'm SuperSnowman without the carroty nose? :D
I amble across the parking lot, suddenly feeling happier. One moment I'm astronaut, and the other moment, a clumsy super hero. The wintry weather doesn't seem that nasty anymore. I reach my building and open the door. Astonaut and superhero vanish with a wink as my professional side takes over. See you in the evening, guys! Who says one can't be a kid once in a while?

that is so nice of u - mebbe its that tone of empathy that i appreciate in you.
all this cold - it sounds like some place abroad. here in madras, its hot, and then it gets hotter :) i'm the cold person - i love cold places, the colder it gets, the more i seem to like it.
thanks once again for the post! am going to link u up, hope u don't have any trouble with that?
Dear Priya,
I think it's amazing the way you have exposed the contents of your mind as you venture off to work. I recognize the mental meandering as being similar to what goes on in my own mind, yet so often I have only a vague awareness of it. Hopefully that "kid" in you doesn't have to completely hide out when you're at work!
Hugs,
Betty
Hi Priya
I travelled along...its soooooooo cold :)
At least this wacky winter weather the country is enduring is good for something!!
On Friday herein the city the new stations reported a man taking out a million dollar lawsuit against 4 homeless people for sleeping in front of his store (making use of the heating vent)and scaring his patrons away.
Really, what was the point. Silly goat. Why not help the people get situated in a warm place?
So compelling chica. I will read this several more times and read between the lines a bit more.
Ciao...be well.
skiing in the streets of Tx:-)

TX is going all bonkers uh !? I had a fun time trying to drive on ice and all that .. my colleagues gave me the weirdest of looks for actually going to office instead of "work from home" !

Dear Cheti,
Driving on ice? That is scary but cool if you like that kind of thrill. Maybe I should come along and post signs warning others to keep off the road :D
Superhero trips are good - imagination brightens up life considerably, don't you think?
Priya.
Priya .. where else can one be a super hero in ones own or in ones kids imagination ! Some time attempts are heroism is plain stupid .. but if it works out .. atleast to the others .. its heroic !
